    Hello-
Found this hand-thrown stoneware-type pottery jardiniere with unusual decoration-3 Matisse-type nudes deftly painted. Decoration is in cobalt blue under the glaze on a gray/tan ground, reminiscent of our (Pennsylvania) stoneware of the late 19th century. Marked clearly M.L. Phila.(delphia) 1976. Anybody know who M.L. might be? Any thoughts will be appreciated. Height is 7" and the diameter at the top is 8-1/4". Thanks. DSCN9555.JPG DSCN9556.JPG DSCN9557.JPG DSCN9558.JPG DSCN9559.JPG

Studio pottery. Nice of ML to date and put the place name on it. Question is, did ML throw the pot and the design or just the design? Very Matisse-like and perhaps copied from some of his art.

Agree re Matisse. Inspired by one of his cut-outs. Here's 'Blue Nude II'. 1952.
