I recently acquired this dough bowl from my decreased mother-in-law's estate. (She had two, and the other is a Zia dough bowl which I posted about last year.)
I believe it is a Hopi dough bowl for making piki bread. 12" (300cm)
    What do you all think?
It is cracked, which is too bad. I found a similar item, which I have linked.

Is it too much to think it may be Nampeyo, or someone in her family?

It is a beauty, stracci.:woot::woot: More beautiful than the one in the listing. A nicely used condition too, without significant loss, so attractive.
I hope it is by Nampeyo, or can at least be attributed to her.

I will report back if I hear from them!
We have no intention of selling, and it's cracked, so value will be lower anyway.
but we just want confirmation of what we have here.

PS-I'm guessin' we all could use Kin like that ! But no-generally it's Beanies or doilies. We could start a thread on the worst & weirdest things we've all inherited.

I did NOT ask about value, because we are not interested in selling.

Well, here is their very unhelpful response this morning. :dead:

That's what I get for talking to a gallery in Santa Fe! They won't tell me anything unless I consign with them, and they can make $$$

    Tee hee! Yeah Bosko!
Too bad they wouldn't share even a tidbit of info.
Since they sold a similar one, I hoped they would be more forthcoming.
    Alas and alack.

Presumably they would provide value if you were interested in consigning the piece for sale.

    She didn't ask for value.....
but I'm guessing they wouldn't want their written thoughts on the item to be used in another selling venue..... and link back to them as a source.

Andrea Fisher Gallery, also in Santa Fe, was much more forthcoming on some pics I sent about a piece. Mark Sublette too-- he once confirmed and dated an Acoma owl I have.

So, maybe try someone else! What you got seems like a form response.

Well you got a generic response (and yes not helpful) Several times I don’t even get that. I think unless you put in the subject line: I want to sell.. But I also understand that,knowledge/information is expertise and that is business and money.

What really surprises me is when even museums don’t bother to reply. I mean they are suppose to help educate and foster awareness/love for items of potential historical value. I would even appreciate a : ‘Sorry you got it all wrong’.
Subject line must probably read: I want to donate this.

Ultimately I think it’s got to do with the legality and potential ‘use’ of the reply (like Komo also said) And commenting on a object without inspecting firsthand.
