Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Is there a rectangular space inside for the photographic piece to be placed? Or does the piece have to be cut into an oval? (I see you have dimensions listed but I can't tell the shape.) If it's rectangular, it could be meant for any early type of image like a daguerreotype, ambrotype, or tintype. If it's oval, then ambrotypes would be less likely because they are printed on glass and it's a bit harder to cut that shape. Of course, photos printed on paper could also be placed there but the style of the frame seems more of the type for earlier photos.

Cut into an oval. The glass pops off the front with the metal rim. Most likely a paper based photo or painting. I agree the box seemed older... for a older type photo.
