Hello all! So nice to be back. I had a wonderful 3 months in the sun, but honestly the flea markets were abysmal for jewelry, nothing of note to show and tell whilst I was away.

However! I did make a couple of ebay purchases, and I did find 2 pieces down in the South of France.

One of the ebay purchases was this little brooch, I have no idea as to stone, if it is a stone at all, very glittery and porous. BUT its circled in some lovely black dot paste! Early/mid 19th I'm guessing with the pin length? At 10 euros PP I couldn't let it go.

This guy I bought for a euro. I liked him because he was a nice thing and I hadn't found anything older in a long time. But when I looked it up later this sort of thing is actually quite valuable! One sold for 300usd so we'll see how that goes. I also found out he opens up :hilarious: Needs a clean but he's in pretty good antique shape.

I'll put the two pieces de resistance in another topic! Lots to oogle, thanks for doing so!

I think center stone is what people describe as "goldstone". I've also heard it described as "gold sandstone", but wait for others. Awesome it has black dot paste surrounding. Love it!

The Mummy appears to be an Everlasting Match or is it a propelling pencil ?

    Woohh, you did very well:woot:
    Anything Egyptomania is sought after.
Your glittering stone is not a stone but glass called "Verde aventurine", it is made with copper glittering dust put in the melting glass. Exists too in dark blue.

Lucille and kyra are right (of course), it is aventurine glass aka goldstone.
With that rounded back and black dot paste it is an 18th century brooch.
    Yes, it is.:)

What great finds! Egyptian stuff always does well and pieces with fun "secrets" like that do even better.

Wow amazing to hear its that old! very happy especially at that price, thank you Lucille and Kyra for the stone ID!

Its a pencil! Although someone did stick a match in there to keep it from going back inside itself.

Real Victorian goldstone with black dot pastes for a tenner? Score! They still make goldstone, but the oldest varieties are the best.

I'm considering doing the ARS in Fife next month, though it'll cost a lot to go...

Definitely will have to take the paste brooches as part of my larger collection!

I think the georgian paste, my miniature portraits, and my 17thC boxes will make the cut if I do go.

I'd love to! I've submitted the clock pieces and also applied for tickets, but the trip is costing over 500 euros so far and thats with two nights AT the airport. French trains stop early
