What are these French paste things?

French_paste_ornaments_2.JPG They have exceptionally bright paste stones and the center stones are 20mm in diameter. Length is 1 5/8". The stones are set on a curve but the back bars are straight. "Made in France" is stamped on each bar. Thus, I presume they are 1914 or later? (McKinley Tarriff act of 1890) The metal appears to be gilt copper or brass.

So, what are they? I was thinking shoe jewels the they would have to be sewn on. And the straight bar would not be conducive to hugging the vamp of the foot. Any ideas? TIA!!

Shoe jewels are certainly possible, and sewn on wouldn't be unusual.

Thanks! I found 2 listings with similar items. One person suggested buckle--I don't see how that would work on clothing. Another said shoe ornaments. But both had curved back bars.

I have a pair in vivid canary yellow somewhere, I don't recall if the stones are square or round. I bought them a few years ago because of the brilliance of the stones but I didn't research them then.

The country of origin fits too.

Yes! Maybe there are shoe ornaments. Wish I could find an old ad or photo showing them in place.
