I found this really nice wood bowl at a thrift store today & thought it was unusual for it to have a FB Rogers silver co. label (and on the bowl not the pedestal). I've googled the exact wording on the label but only silver plate bowls come up.

Anyone heard of Rogers silver co. making a wooden bowl - in japan?!

I did see some wood bowls (without the silver pedestal) when I tried wood bowl on silver pedestal, with incredible asking prices - is this one of them? How do you tell the difference?

    Thanks for any help!

Journey, lots of silver companies bought "component parts" from other companies, including glass for vases/bowls/etc with silver rims and bases, and in this case, wood for plates/bowls/compotes/trays, etc with silver handles/rims, et al.

It's not unusual to see a silver company name on the entire piece, even if only the silver part was actually made by that company.

Note, too, that FB Rogers items tend to be silver plate, not sterling.

So the bowl isn't a valuable one?

Sorry, Journey, but no, it really isn't. Probably a mid-century salad bowl, given as a wedding gift in the 50's-60's.

No its decorative value. Yours is silver plate as Sbsvc said not sterling.

Quite attractive. Wedding present is likely.

Though not of particularly fine quality, F.B. Rogers produced quite a bit of mid 20th century sterling and sterling mounts - check carefully for a small 'Sterling' stamp to be sure...

Determining the type of wood might help.
I see quite a few listed as Mahogany with sterling base.

Do as Cheryl suggested. Check the base. Sometimes a little polishing will unearth the mark.

@verybrad - any idea if this is Mahogany?

Does appear to be mahogany but, being from Japan, suppose this could be some other similar hard wood.
