I bought this daguerreotype ring a couple of months ago. The ring is engraved "E. M. F. to L. P. Flint." I assume "E. M. F." was E. M. Flint, a man, who gave the ring to his wife L. P. Flint. The inscription is engraved inside the daguerreotype ring. The ring was probably made 1850-1855. The ring has a daguerreotype portrait of a man who looks to be about 25-30 years old (image is tiny and not in great condition, so his age is just a guess). He would have been born circa 1820-1830 (plus or minus 10 years). Any idea who these people are? I've googled possible names for the initials using the most common given names of the 1850's. I used this web site for a list of possible given names: http://www.galbithink.org/names/us200.htm. I also posted the info on the Ancestry Flint surname board. So far no luck in figuring out who these people are. Any ideas about how to sleuth out these initials would be much appreciated! Thanks. Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

    Interesting!

Did you find this in Alaska, or did you buy it online, or... ? Maybe that information would help, if you know anything about the provenance. I will be traveling a lot today so may not have much time to work on this, but maybe somebody else will.

I was doing a little searching on E. M. Flint early this morning (my time) and found something stating there was someone of the same name and time period from Toronto.
I had to go out so couldn`t save the info.
Now I can`t find it again :arghh:

According to the 1855 Massachusetts census 42 yr old E.M. Flint was living in Charlestown with his wife Louisa P. Flint with their children.

IF it is the same man, his name was Ezra and he dealt in china and glassware from Charlestown/Boston.

Thanks, can't take much credit though, it was on the 1st Google page that came up in my search. Dates seem to fit and it intrigues me as this is my area of the USA. :)
