    Hi,

My mum has this tea cup and saucer. It says Made in Germany on the bottom of the cup and some text on the side which I can't decipher. Does anyone have any ideas about it?

I see this is a conversation between two kitties, can anyone join in?:shy:

Welcome, @DAL . As above. Hardly anyone looks in the gallery, but if you post your photos in this thread, knowledgeable people will look and help you.

I don't know who made it but I believe the text on the side says "Remember Me".

I took the liberty of posting your photo from gallery.

AFAIK, these wares were mass produced in Germany late 19th, early 20th c. Some had these mottos, some were souvenir wares.

IMG_0700.JPG Hi. Your cup reminds me of one I have. Hope you don't mind me posting it. If I remember it's either German or Eastern European. I could never figure out what it says. IMG_0703.JPG IMG_0704.JPG

Essentually, "Congratulations", or "I congratulate you." It's Fraktur and I can sometimes read it.

Thanks. I've looked off and on for like 10 years to try and figure out what it said. I always tried to translate it with German and never quite got it. Some letters I couldn't read.

    Correct. 'Ich gratuli(e)re' = I congratulate.
An older or regional variation of the German spelling, without the first 'e' in gratuliere.
Most Fraktur letters aren't as difficult as they seem. You just have to get past the idea that it is supposed to be difficult.;)
