Picked these up today. I'm quite chuffed with them. I don't think they are worth much especially with the damage but I think they are pretty old, 18th C. for the two without the staples. If they don't fetch much I could happily live with them on my wall or mantle piece. Ø=23cm

Stapled repairs are a special treat, for me. I only have one, but every other I've seen has been a real charmer...as is yours, Chino. Thanks!

Don't they make a nice little grouping?

Special close up for you Whit. They seem to have chamfered corners which I've not seen before.

Someone told me that years ago you'd save your broken crockery up. Every so often someone would come knocking door to door and offer to repair your broken wares.

    Thanks!!
The skill involved is fascinating. None of the holes for the staple legs go through to the face of the plate; there appear to be grooves between those holed to accommodate the staple bars; an', as you mentioned, the ends of the bar have been chamfered near the leg ends to reduce their height, thus protecting the repair from incidental damage from a bump.

Verrry intereshting ! Did they ever use gold staples for repairs :peeking::pompous::woot:?

Yeah, probably...but Very few of them would be extant, given the modern (inflated) value of the commodity.

Ah so that's the reason. I just thought aesthetics or to assist bending the staple.

Modern locks. I'll buy and sell anything in bulk. Less work.

The books are published by photocinedizioni. They have 12 slides of classic artists in each, with commentary. £1 a book so I took a risk and bought ten. If they do okay I'll go back and grab the rest.
