Featured A nice little box by Georg Adam Scheid:

Recently, while poking around online, a listing for this piece just popped up, so had to take a look. Suspected it might be by prominent Austrian maker Georg Adam Scheid, known for their excellent enamel work (have a few other pieces in my collection), but the price was just a fraction of what I'd expect. There wasn't much of a description, no mention of the maker, but the images were pretty clear and I could see an 1872-1922 2nd standard Vienna Diana-head stamp, a '900', and a partially struck 'G.A.S.'. Couldn't see any damage in the pics, so hit the 'Buy' button as fast as I could, and waited anxiously for its arrival, pleased when it finally came and was in excellent condition, very happy to add it to my collection.

Unusual in both top and bottom being domed, and in having a nicely done screw-on lid rather than the typical hinged lid - it's cast, with the 'cloisonné wires' part of the casting, a common technique for Scheid, the interior gilt. Heavy for its size at 35 grams, it measures 1-3/8" (3.5 cm) in diameter, 1" (2.6 cm) at its deepest, the band 1/2" (1.3 cm) wide.

Scheid is one talented silversmith and enamelist, kudos for snatching the beautiful box and thank you for posting it to share

Certainly for a purse or pocket, since it doesn't really 'sit', have pondered on its use, and why the unusual screw-on lid (seals tight like a nitro tablet holder) - I just haven't found one quite like it. Seems a bit too small for a snuffbox, boxes of similar size and shape are usually described as bonbonnières or pillboxes, but hinged lids are typical - the lid on this one would definitely keep its contents from spilling or spoiling.
