Thank you for this wonderful picture.
In 1970 my parents took us to Yellowstone, stopping in Cody, Wy., where they met and purchased a painting from Mr. Brokenrope. My dad talked with him a bit about Jesus. My mom recently gave me the painting. It was a great memory for me, especially now that dad has passed. I'm so happy to learn more about the artist.

 

Hello, I have a couple of Godfrey Broken Rope painings as well. They are really special to me because I inherited them from my Grandfather. One of them is very similar to the one posted on this thread. It is Little Big Horn in Indian symbols painted on a painted bear rug. It took me years to finally figure out the story he painted. I likely wouldn't sell them but am interested in knowing more about Godfrey. While a value might be interesting for insurance purposes....I'd rather know more about him and the dates of the paintings. I believe mine to be from the 1930's but no way to know. Thanks! Jeff

 

I have no idea of value, and I haven’t looked further for information on him than I’ve already posted. If yours has the same symbols, you can probably use the decoder tool to get a sense for whether it is the same or a different story. Decoder is original to the painting I have on the back, and I saw online a similar painting by him years ago with a similar decoder. Don’t know if pics of that other painting are still available but worth a search.
