hi folks, this was the other thing i found in a chazza today

zero markings or hallmarks so doubtful on anything fine, wouldn't totally rule it out though

    seems nicely put together

i'm guessing on coral and seed pearls, but guess they could be imitation

    seems to have age

was gonna polish up but don't want those stones flying out

    any thoughts or info appreciated

Could be coral colored glass and costume pearls, they look glued in. Looks like the rollover is missing on the clasp.

Can you test the metal? It looks costume to me but testing will confirm. It's a nice looking pin :)

thanks Marie, yeah i definitely see signs of glue on the central stone. could have always been like that, but its sloppy enough to be a bad repair also

yeah will give it a test, really wanted to see what it shined up like, but as mentioned, the stones would probably knock out

definitely not gold unfortunately, so guessing the little cabs are faux ;)

    Ditto.
    Yes they are.
Sweet brooch. You can harvest the roll-over part of the clasp from a cheaper (broken?) brooch. These clasps are easy to fix, you just need pliers to push the outer things back together once you have put the rolling thingie in place.

thanks Aj, the clasp actually fully functions as it has a good spring(motion) left in the pin/hinge

i guess the roll over parts are for added security ?

its saving grace will be if it has any age in it i guess

The roll-over part is part of the design of the clasp, which is smaller and not as curved as a C-clasp. Without that part it is a 'roll-over clasp missing a part'.;)
I suppose it does function as a small C-clasp, but because the curve is not complete it won't be as good as either a real C-clasp or a complete roll-over clasp.
Besides, people will see it is missing the roll-over part, which diminishes your chances of selling it.:(

It wouldn't be too difficult of a fix - agreed. On a lower-value costume piece however it's often not worth the bother.
