So, I bought this wardrobe at a local estate sale, along with a couple other pieces I'll post in a different thread. The level of wear and detail makes me think mid to early 1800s, Renaissance Revival. I'd love to get your thoughts. I'm wondering if the coat of arms on either door are of significance; on the middlemost door, there are two birds over a flower basket, which I think might represent marriage, so perhaps this was part of a dowry.

And this is the giglio, the symbol of Florence.

:jawdrop: I wonder if it was commissioned by a member of that family...
Really wish I'd bought more of this estate's pieces; they had a few renaissance revival pieces I was really torn on, but when I went back a couple hours later, they'd already been bought lol

This are common coats of arms found on Renaissance Revival furniture. The carved head is likely meant to be Savonarola.

Just a brief check-in as I’m heading out of town. This looks to be walnut with pine secondary, thinking Italian 1860-80. Beautiful carving! Where did you buy this, @Barn Owl ?

Great detail, and certainly inspired by the Florentine Renaissance
Very unlikely. Savonarola was a very conservative Dominic friar. He had a tonsure. Long flowing hair was too frivolous, so forbidden for members of Catholic orders.
Besides, he was fervently anti-Renaissance and everything it stood for, including the rule of the decadent Medici family.

He burned art and books, and then he lost what hair he had in a fire.

With Ghopper on this. Think his dates pretty much correct, though think 1860 might be just a tad early.
