Far too much false information has already been published, both online and in hard copy

If they did, then the reverse would also be true: they get saturated with moisture when there's water in a vase or tea in a teapot

Yes. Thank you so much. You are right that Straits Chinese porcelain is simply not worth the prices they're fetching now, in addition to which there are so many fakes around you wouldn't believe. Some have goodheartedly tried to advise others but they refuse to listen, go off in a huff claiming that other "experts" have told them that the fakes are genuine antiques, and are never heard from again. Their loss!

A more comprehensive blog: https://kenyap227.wixsite.com/my-site. This is pinned on my Facebook, which deals with Peranakan culture, in particular fake Nyonyaware and misinformed and illogical hypotheses and arguments: https://www.facebook.com/ken.yap.1069020/. I mostly present my side of the argument and leave it to the viewer to make up their own minds and research further: https://bbddduck.wixsite.com/website. It is up to the viewer who they want to follow and listen to.

I am happy to report I have started a confidential Facebook group, but due to the sensitiveness of the main subject matter, have to be careful whom I allow to join and also the way postings are worded. All kinds of porcelain ware and material culture can be discussed as well as anything to do with the Peranakan culture, and cultural identity in general: https://www.facebook.com/groups/3255765724589043

Great initiative, Ken. I just applied for membership. I am not a Nyonya-ware collector, but I am interested in Peranakan culture in general. Nyonya-ware is very much part of that.

I always believe culture and time flow one into another, so I try to study all cultures to see their influences on each other. Obviously the closer the “neighbour”, normally the more influence, unless they’re enemies Same goes for rivalling families within the same culture. I try to discover evidence of all this in material culture: while some follow like sheep, others forge their own path and identity. It is of the greatest interest to me, so welcome to the group ☺️

It's easy to see art in a linear fashion: this leads to this leads to this, etc, but when you start looking at other cultures, it's not so much a straight line as an all encompassing net You can start at one point and follow a straight line, but from that same start point there are a vast number of lines that can lead in radically different directions.

I couldn’t agree more and that’s what makes it infinitely interesting, all the possible narratives and viewpoints. Truly “no man is an island entire of itself”.

Please do. I wish you would. We can discuss anything there. Here too of course, but in more confidentiality there. Just have to word things carefully

Not too difficult as long as the rules are clear, which they are, thanks to Ken.
I am a member of the Ethnic Jewellery forum on FB and everyone behaves there. It is possible.
