Based on the construction and details, I think this chest of drawers might be from around 1860–1885, possibly late Empire or early Historicism. It has dovetailed drawers, what looks like original brass handles, and an old finish that could be shellac. Could be Scandinavian or North German, but I’m not certain. I’m considering a light restoration and would really appreciate any input or corrections.

Could you show the drawer construction (dovetails). Also those inset locking mechanisms make me think the piece is closer to fourth quarter 19th. Are any of them stamped?

I cant find any stamps in the locking mechanism or brass handles. Ill get close-up pictures of the drawers later today!

Dovetails are visible with a zoom on the 3rd thumbnail pic.

@Hallingdalen you can hit Full Size on all your images when you post. We like to see them larger. :D

Has elements of what we would call late classical style here in the States. Would think if the drawer pulls and mirror are original to the piece (not convinced they are), would put it closer to 1880 than 1860.

Is it possibly to say anything about the pulls by looking at close-ups of one from the front and above?

I feel that full picture is a bit messy when I post many pictures together, it floods the thread...

The forum-standard request is full image, that's why you'll see some members re-post full size for new members. People don't like to click the thumbnails individually and not be able to see everything together at a scroll.

Oh, and since the back of the drawer was very dark, here it is in better light IMG_2304 (1).jpg
