This type of scene was super popular with hobby painters. I guess because bare trees and snow is easier/more fun to paint? Makes a good Christmas gift? Idk but I really wish we'd make a return to the painting enthusiasm of the 70s. People are happier being creative and making things they can hold and enjoy. Now we just have ai that suck all the human out of things. :yuck:

I like the texture they got on the rocks. Those are the fun bits for me. :D

Couldn't agree more Mirana, people are more empowered and joyful when they are creating. Say what you will re the artistic merits of Bob Ross,he got people painting-we seem so far from those days now.

I have been terribly remiss at photographing and just realized I have not posted anything since the end of March. Here is some of what I have bought since then. Some are unresearched so any help that can be provided is appreciated.

This small oil on canvas seascape is unsigned and I believe it may be factory art. Still thought it has a nice look. Bought for $4.00.

This is a medium sized signed limited edition serigraph that I have not researched as of yet. Bought for $6.00.

This is a medium sized signed lithograph by Bloomington-Normal, IL artist Meda Rives (Smith). Bought for $4.00.

This is a fairly large contemporary Asian block print. Google lens suggest it is Suzhou School (China) and could be the work of Zhou Xinghua. There appears to be several artists working in similar style. Can anyone confirm or deny the attribution? Also, some sellers suggest these are lithographs or etchings. Looks like more research is necessary. Bought for $4.00.

This medium sized oil on canvas is initialed bottom right. Think this is surely factory art. Bought for $5.00.

This small original work on paper is signed, Stalter. Unresearched but likely local. Bought for $2.00.
    thriftptg82.jpg

This hand tinted photograph is by Maine photographer, Charles Higgins. I particularly like the sticker on back. Bought for $1.00.

This is a huge (60" x 40") factory painting. Has an interesting look with heavy impasto. They didn't even bother to put a fake signature ... LOL! Bought for $10.00.

This is my best find and a keeper for me. It is by central IL artist Elvin Mauk (1929-2006). I have dealt with a number of his works over the years including about 20 I bought from his estate. I have not kept any until now. It is fairly large oil on canvas and probably one of his earlier abstractions. I had to pay a whole $40.00 for this but did not blink an eye. Apparently others did, as I did not see it until the third day it was in the store. Store employee told me that many people looked at it but did not buy it. I sold several of his abstract works in the $400-$600 range in the past so a no-brainer for me.

This is a large landscape by Georgia artist Bill Turner. This also sat in the same thrift store for over a week. It had a pretty good dent in the canvas that I was able to shrink right back out. I had to touch up the frame from numerous scrapes and chips. I also think that some probably thought this a print or factory art. It is exactly what the artist does, with thin application of paint (maybe airbrush?). Bought for $4.00 with my Senior Day discount.

This is a nice framed art nouveau book cover. Framed fairly recently but this old label was attached to the back. Bought for $2.00.

This medium sized acrylic on canvas is signed only "Rosanne". Probably student work. Have had this in my room for awhile now and it is growing on me. Maybe Raphael Soyer meets Frankenstein?.... :woot:
    Bought for $5.00.

Think "Richard" is the first name on 'You Can Run, but You Can't Hide.'

Thanks. I can see Richard but can also see Michael as a possibility. Last name looks like Duma, Juma, or similar. Coming up blank with various combinations.

I like the small seascape. Personally I won’t have thought factory art. But it’s something different almost has a ‘alien world’ look to it.

Great buy on the Elvin Mauk then. Definitely my favourite and I would also have kept that. I think the colours are great.

Agree! I like the Elvin Mauk abstracted landscape (?) best. Very evocative. Reminds me personally of the eastern Washington state area called 'the Palouse.'

Hi Brad.Think your serigraph may be by American artist Michael James.Few serigraphs by him sold on ebay. But believe signature is a match.

While I see some similarity in signature, I don't think it is a match. The work doesn't seem to match either.

IMG_8579.jpeg This was about IMG_8580.jpeg $4.. I think the frame suits the art well ,I know of the framers and they do quality work. Couldn’t find anything on the artist. Amateur with some training? Not very fond of still life paintings in general. Please tell me what you think

Not half bad. Like the overall composition and use of color. Think the depth perspective is a bit off. Not sure what the fruit are supposed to be. Pears?

I get it. Once you have seen a Cezanne still life of fruit, all else pales.

Well,it must have been a student with money then :). These framers are really not cheap. I have been in contact with them myself at one time.

Maxwoods Framers & Gilders have been making picture frames in Cape Town for over 50 years. l have seen some expensive works framed by them.. They also provide consultants and they pride themselves on setting the highest benchmark standards.
