I have a slew of Carnival, mostly marigold, but find it isn't very popular now. Do people think the color is too showy? I always kind of liked the marigold color. Here are a few samples:

Yeah...me, too. Carnival can be pretty special, some of it...colors an' forms that so easily evoke an era. Thanks!

I still like it. I wish someone in my family would have collected more of of it.

The old pieces sell here locally if cheap enough. Usually under $20.00. depending on the piece, might need to be under $15.00.

There are some rarer pieces that still fetch good money. There are still collectors of Fenton, Northwood and others too. It was made in abundance though so victim of its own success perhaps. A lot of people may see it as dated and vulgar. The times they are a changing said Bob.

Although not marigold, this Northwood "Rosette" bowl was included in a box lot purchased at an auction for 25¢ in the 1960s. The people running the auction probably didn't realize what it was. Even my mom though little of it when I brought it home (this was before she became interested in collecting vintage glassware). It was relegated to a box in the basement. Ten years later, when she started collecting glass and became familiar with it, she remembered this and brought it out. It was one of her favorite pieces after that.

There's a website about Carnival glass. It was administered by David Doty, but he passed away a few years ago, so the site probably isn't being monitored or up to date on prices.

I think ebay supressed a lot of collecting categories. Things once thought rare began appearing in abundance. Prices and, subsequently, interest fell dramatically. Some categories were decimated with only the rarest of the rare retaining some value. Think we have seen a little rebound but the glory days of collecting are over, at least in my lifetime.

  9. Good analysis, Brad. Ebay allowed us all to see just how much 'stuff' there is out there, nothing's 'rare' any more.
