I bought this the other day because I thought it was a little better than most you see today. First, I noticed the little lock/latch is made of bone, and not plastic.
And then the little seal nestled in this beautiful pink satin pillow.
What sealed the deal was the actual stamp is not someone's name lol.
Please Tell me your thoughts and possible age and type of stone if possible.

image search gives me many export period matches listed as Shoushan stone so yes I think, but there’s no exact match. Also the boar carving is very usual for Chinese seal, I would assume a later addition by the non-Chinese owner.

Or else made in China for sale elsewhere, to someone who knows which Chinese zodiac sign is theirs or wanted somthing from the Year of the Pig. Those boxes turn up here often, with touristy gifts in them.

Yes those types of boxes always make me think 1960s export gift ware. You often get jangly meditation balls in them.

And could it be blood agate?

It could be, but Shoushan sounds much better lol.
These hand made traditional presentation boxes have been made for centuries. Not that mine is near that old. It's quality that really counts on these.

Ah okay never realised. I've always just lumped them all together and dismissed them as cheap and nasty exports. I will look more carefully in future.

Blood agate is easier to pronounce and spell.

The spelling is easy, and the pronunciation is pretty close to 'shoe shine'. Only more expensive.:playful:
