Just received this cutie in unmounted status- old stock from an old jeweller, or being taken off from its original mount? There’s a lot of Victorian examples of chalcedony brooches with gold details and turquoise, but the finer details of mine and use of green gold give me some Georgian vibe- maybe early Victorian?

Also does anyone have suggestions for repurposing? I am too lazy to mail it to a jeweller for a customized mount, but love to hear more interesting ideas on how to make it wearable again! (but I guess even it got a new brooch fitting, it will just sit in my jewelry box all the time )

Shamster- Beautiful, you've got a great eye.Just curious-does China have antique stores/malls where normal citizens & tourists can buy and sell antiques ?

Yes we have, buying old trinkets is generally safe as long as you don’t just drop hundreds on stuff you have no idea about, but if one believes they can find, i.e. royal seal of Emperor Qianlong there, then it’s not a safe place for them to treasure hunt;)

Would you be taken to a court of law and prosecuted if you found and bought valuable a cultural artifact ?
PS-What if you didn't know what it was or thought it was a repro, and does China have 'Antique Police' ?

I think that chance is way smaller than “the valuable cultural artifact you believe you bought is a repro”:D

    It is a beauty, shammie.
This is one with just a pinback, not the complete mount you usually see, so maybe that is an idea:

You could also tie nylon beading thread to the two attachment thingies at the back, sew it on some velvet, and put it in a shadowbox frame.
    :joyful:

Wow I love how neat this one actually looks! Sometimes I’m just tired of flowery frames :p I’d love all my jewelry ready for wear when I want to wear, but I didn’t say when I want to wear:D

That's what I'd do with it. Just framed a piece of tatting last week - similar idea. It's a good way to make a "piece" into something useful again. It sure beats leaving it in a box! (image from before I hand-sewed it to the backing. )

Great one! I imagine when my plaque was still a brooch, it might work as a lace pin? Which will look sweet when two delicate pieces adorn each other :angelic:

Very possible, as long as something else is in back of the lace. I'd put yours on black velvet in a 10x15cm-ish frame, but with lace it would be larger to keep the lace from looking squished.

lovely;) I did have a larger frame which was initially bought for my comb collection, but I just can’t figure how to safely fixed them on the board, so I gave up and never picked up that frame again:hungover:

It is bigger than a lace pin. Lace or veil pins are real miniatures, much smaller than regular brooches. I'll see if I can find some of mine and take photos tomorrow.

Yes please!:joyful: How about lace pin compared to fichu pin? I do have a Georgian mourning brooch which I think might be a regular size of a fichu pin

A fichu pin is the same as a lace or veil pin.:) A fichu is a kerchief, often made of delicate fabric just like a veil or lace. Think 18th century almost sheer kerchiefs.

I would think a bezel frame with two rings at the top, left and right, to connect to chains would make this a lovely necklace!

That's another good idea. I admit a bezel was my first thought, but that would require a bench jeweler and $$$.

Yes, you can wait for the price to come down. Or, sell some gold you don't love to buy a frame!

I don’t think that unloved gold exists :p;) but a 9ct gold frame will still be great!
