Got a private 15 card stereoview set from Chickering of the Detroit Michigan area. Ive read he was a photographer for Keystone and then did his own thing. Probably late 20's early 30's. I found one other set from Chickering that featured a dog owner and his champion dog. This family was probably somewhat "known" in the area, or well off.

I'd think late 1930s, given skirt lengths. And Esquire magazine wasn't founded until 1933. There's a car through the window. Perhaps some clever person can identify. Oh, that could be the April 1938 issue of the magazine in the rack. (Based on the shape the first block of text makes on the right.)

Great quality/clarity on those- abt as close to '37 as we'll get.Re 'Time' cover-horse racing was massive back then, can't tell ya how many vintage portraits of 'Man O' War' & 'Seabiscuit' I've seen from that era.
    That's a unique set Kronos.

The set was probably done for family only, and you scored one that escaped into the wild.

I suppose you could 'gift' family or friends one,or a set of these cards as a way to stay in touch.Cool-never seen them before.

I didn't know they even made stereocards this late. Must have been special order only.

And they're not studio portraits. Hard to imagine their purpose.

It appears to be a rather middle class home interior, which seems unlikely for a well-known/well-to-do local family.
The same child appears to be photographed with his parents, a set of grandparents, and a grand- or great-grandmother.
Roydon Chickering seems to have specialized in stereoviews, weirdly I'm not finding any other type of photography by him.

    The box they came in:

Very much like what Keystone or Underwood would have done for their sets.

There's really not much out there from or about Chickering.

He could be anyone. An automobile company exec, a bank manager, an ad man. Prosperous but conventional.
