    Bought this cute elephant today.

And, quelle surprise ;), it's (365nm) UV reactive.

The elephant was labeled as Murano glass, but I think it might be Mdina, as he looks more like their elephants

It didn't have a original sticker. Only a sticker from the seller with 'Murano' written on it (and 2 price stickers)

i'm surprised that glowed, wouldn't have necessarily thought it would on 1st appearance

the mdina ones look close but no cigar, not sure if they ever did uranium/vasaline glass though

Didn't find any Murano elephant looking like this.
    And ...
When I removed the price sticker on the bottom, I discovered a crack in the glass...
At first I thought it was just a scratch on the bottom...
    upload_2025-7-30_11-54-39.png
but it goes up into the elephant
    upload_2025-7-30_11-54-52.png
And this bit on the inside also seems to be damaged
    upload_2025-7-30_11-57-32.png

I bought this at a store that sells items on consignment. I've called them and they said they don't do refunds as they just sell it for others, but told me to come by the store to see if the actual seller is willing to give a refund.
As it will cost me time to go there, and I don't know if the seller will actually give a refund, I wonder what such a crack would do to the value, if it is a piece of Murano glass after all, and if it would still be worthwhile keeping it (for resale)

hmmm, a bit naughty that hiding it under a label :shifty: that would p*ss me off regardless of the money involved.

    looks like an impact fracture

i would say depends on the price paid;)

    the damage is significant enough

you haven't paid massively, but then you haven't paid knowing the full story.
one of those cases where you have to make a judgement call i guess
is an elephant rare enough that a bit of damage is no consequence ?
or will the damage just totally put potential buyers off ?
(we need one of those emojis where its a head with a puzzled look with his arms up in the air).......:)

if i had to choose a place to have a bit of damage it would be there though ;)

Rare for me, as I'm unable to find any similar elephant with google ...
Google lens isn't helpful, and a regular search gives many elephants, but nothing like mine, and a lot of useless results. :shifty:

It is indeed the best place possible, and not super noticeable, so I might keep it, and then try selling it together with the duck I posted some time ago, that definitely is a Murano piece.

sounds like a good idea, the uranium aspect should attract attention, then you have a known piece as well (for title)so its gonna get good views ;)

Thank you for convincing me to keep and not wasting time going back to the shop, and instead spend my time wisely reading posts on Antiquers...err... I mean ... working.

I think it is always signed, my Mdina pieces are. But there are other glass makers on Malta, and once a model is popular, it could be copied. Not all Maltese glass makers sign their pieces.
