To keep up the goofy analogy-my lanterns going dim and the oxygen's getting thin-and where the hell did these three-thousand other miners come from ?!
The Thrifts,Malls & Mom & Pops are stuffed with herds doing the same exact thing we're doing-and nobody's gettin' in the way of them and their phones !

    Ditto.
I read one of his books when I was researching East Asian glazes. That was a lifetime ago, and I forgot nearly everything.:shame:
Suffice it to say, he knew his East Asian glazes and techniques.

so peoples we have a definitive answer......................

heard nothing back at first(as per usual) so ending up having to use one of those terrible phone things (as per usual)
got straight through to the curator who said i could send the pics through to his mail address for a look

he got back straight away and suggested a potter called jack doherty (lead leach leach 2008- 2013)

contacted jack who confirmed what the curator had thought

"part of tableware range designed by him as lead potter at leach between 2008 - 2013
"a soda fired piece made from Dobles DTS stoneware clay with the titanium slip which was one of the three colours used in the range."

"The mark on the piece is from one of the older stamps which was given to us "

so all in all a great result and from a very good potter

wasn't what i really hoped for..........wasn't a piece of trash............somewhere in the middle i guess................. (as per usual;))

That provenance will only help to increase lookers and price should you sell it!

yeah agree, learnt quite alot about leach as well and how their process works. Also quite alot about BL looking at examples etc.
Was told that BH's work was alot more traditional(than something like mine), and can see that in most of the examples i've looked at

Someone who was allowed to throw a pot in the same room as Leach is pretty impressive.
How nice to be treated as a human being by fellow human beings, and respectfully too !

very much so, the curator was tickled pink that he was correct as well (well he seemed to be anyway;))
as he wasn't sure, a guess (and wasn't even 100% sure it wasn't a BL)

i found this part of what jack said(by mail) the most interesting

"The mark on the piece is from one of the older stamps which was given to us "

so the mark was a complete red herring for decent age

but explains my/our confusion with it

its only when the process is explained that all the little features make sense

Fascinating and enlightening journey-and almost effortless ! Can you imagine if all curators were this cooperative ?

I imagine he was chuffed that someone found one of "his" babies in the wild and figured out enough to ask questions.

I think you nailed it Ruth. I just got a really quick thorough response from the Scottish Rite Library/Museum Research Curator re my photo of African-American Masons-so there are some really responsive museum & auction firm folks out there. Emails are cheap, might as well query the perceived experts-some of 'em might actually know something (or a lot ! ).

Masonic guys are really into their history, and an early Black lodge would fascinate them too. You asked somebody who couldn't wait to talk to another interested party, or even half-interested.(LOL)
