When I bought this little piece, I thought it was painted. It is actually a photograph printed on canvas. Print measures 2 1/2" x 4". I did find several more pieces of this artist M. H Babich's work, all with the same certificate dating 1999-2000. But nothing since then. Even stranger is that this photographer is from my hometown. I think I have been over this bridge ten times in my 66 years in this State.

I remember being in the car going over that bridge. My dad rented a convertible and I was laying down on the back seat looking up at the sky, It was a good memory

I tried to bicycle over that bridge. The side-wind coming in from the ocean was so strong that it could knock me over. I had to get off my bike and walk. Fun memory.

I remember in August of 1979 A couple friends and I drove to San Francisco. The Giants vs the Cubs at Candlestick. Then a Van Halen concert the next day at Oakland Civic Auditorium. We walked across the bridge that weekend. I remember it like it was yesterday.

One of the things about the most photographed bridge in the world is that everybody photographs it.

I've never photographed it. I've got a print of it though. I thought it was an original painting.

Here's another piece by them. Copyright is dated 1998 - 2005. Not sure if that makes it earlier or later. Maybe they did a project with a publisher of their lifes work circa 2000 and that was it.

    I've never photographed it, either.

We have a bigger and longer one within walking distance to my home.

I've walked over it, driven over it, cycled over it, flew over it, sailed under it and been to the top of those towers.

And beautiful, but not as iconic as the Golden Gate Bridge. I have also driven over it.

What's the name of that bridge and where is it located? I'm not very good with knowing much about bridges because they scare me. I was raised in St Louis MO and couldn't stand going over the Eads Bridge. I hid in the corner of the back seat of the car.

Yes, the foggy pics are faves.

It is the Humber Bridge, over the Humber, between Yorkshire and Lincolnshire in the east of England.

Is it because they go over water?
I have always had a thing for bridges because they connect land and people.

It's mostly the ones that don't have high rails and you lose sight of land. When I was a little kid, the mother of 2 boys from my school, committed suicide and jumped off the Eads bridge. At the time it was easy to scale the sides and jump off. The family were DPs from Europe after WWII in the 1950s and I guess the mother was just very depressed. I couldn't imagine losing my mother so I suppose I blamed the bridge. After some jumpers went over the bridge, they built on very high extensions to the side rails. I hear that fear of the bridge is an issue in Michigan with the Mackinac Bridge where they sometimes have to do rescues because people freeze up. I've never been across that one.

I too am afraid of bridges when I am the driver. It just makes me feel uneasy.

My first sight of the Golden Gate Bridge was memorable. I had flown into SF very early in the morning, rented a car, and decided to drive around the bay instead of heading into the city right away. Intended to get to the FLW Marin Co. Civic Center as a destination. After spending some time there, I decided to drive up Mt. Tam. The mountain was socked in fog and I doubted that I would be able to see anything. As I climbed, the fog began to dissipate. The view from the top was clear and glorious. The bridge supports jutted through the fog and the sun, low in the sky, made the fog shine. The Transamerica Pyramid in the city also jutted out in the distance. Have been to the top of Mt. Tam several times since but it never again looked like that from the top.

The only bridge that seriously gave me the heebie-jeebies is the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. Steep, tall, and subject to high winds. You can actually hire someone to drive your car over it if you don't want to do it yourself. Have driven a lot of bridges all over the country and this was the worst.

I am sure the cost has gone up since this was written...

The 7 mile bridge in the Florida Keys was difficult for other reasons (long, narrow, and arduous) but it has been upgraded and improved since I drove it in the 70s. Back then, it was only 2 lanes and not in the best repair. Not much of a side rail the entire length. Here is a photo from that time period.

The San Mateo-Hayward Bridge goes on forever. One begins to lose hope.
