I'd have run off with that too. The style isn't top of the charts fashion these days, but that wouldn't have paid the sales tax 25 years ago! The MCM chairs...I'd have been the one calling the other dealer to come get them. The purple upholstery might not be to everyone's taste, but I know a bunch of women who'd like it.

Saw quite a few things in the wild yesterday. Despite being tempted, I didn't buy anything. Not photographed was a formerly nice oak side by side that had been painted. Priced at $99.00, I would have snatched it up, had it not been painted. Would consider it painted if at a lower price.

These first chests/dressers were all at the Habitat for Humanity Re-Store. Their prices are higher than the other thrifts and they always seem to have a big selection of furniture. I only photographed the things I thought even slightly reasonable or of design interest. If someone needed a bedroom piece, I think any of these would be good options.

There was a pair of these small walnut chests. In good condition, they were priced $75.00 each.

This deco inspired MCM solid wood tall chest was $85.00. It was basically in good shape but the drawers did not want to fit right. I don't know if they had them in their wrong slots or if they needed work. The finish is a little sparse on this as well. Almost has a hand-made quality about it and there are no markings.

These MCM chests were priced separately at $85.00 and $65.00. Only thing I found wrong was that the drop-front on the one piece did not fit quite right and would not easily go back into the case. Not sure what was wrong with it but think it would not have been too hard to figure out how to fix it.

This large 1930s solid oak dresser was $95.00. I wasn't sure if the pulls were original or not. Thought they went well, even if not original. As you can see, their spinning has worn down the drawer fronts in a circle. Also the front right foot has chipped off but the missing piece was in the drawer. Both would be an easy fix.
    thriftdresser23.jpg

The rest of these things were at our large independent charity thrift where I buy most of my finds. Their prices have been creeping up on some things but furniture tends to be quite reasonable. Also their friendly manager that always gave me deals no longer works the sales floor :(. It remains to be seen what this will mean going forward.

This cedar chest is unusual, with inlaid design. It had a misaligned repair to a split in the top and a chunk of one foot was missing. Otherwise, this would have been a no-brainer at $10.00. Was tempted even so but I still have not sold the last cedar chest I bought.

This large chest is an oldie. It has a not-so-great repair to the top and a horrible polyurethane finish. Even so, I was tempted at $13.00. Just would take too much work to make presentable.

Lastly, this was an incredible bargain. All 4 chairs for $10.00. Caning was good on all and the frames were solid. Thought them too dainty to be of much appeal these days.

After posting to the facebook arts and crafts group, I am coming to the conclusion that the mission bookcase I bought for myself was made by the Grand Rapids Bookcase and Chair Co. (Later to become Lifetime furniture). While I did not find the exact piece, hardware and construction details point this direction. This would probably put it prior to 1910.

The second dresser really does look like it was done in a small shop. I hope someone made off with it.

I continue to see some interesting items. Only bought one. This table was only 13.00. Primarily bought it for the heavy iron base. Will re-paint the base and use a different larger top on it. Nothing wrong with the top other than blah color and only 30" diameter. Will probably find another use for it.

This oak step back cabinet was in great shape. Priced at $99.00

This dresser was also in great condition. Priced a bit high for this particular thrift at $80.00. Sometimes seems there is no rhyme or reason to their pricing.

This art deco china cabinet had been priced at $99.00 for the past few weeks and did not sell. Now marked down to $50.00. Think it should sell at that price.

Lastly, I probably should have bought this washstand at $12.00. However, I have several small projects in the wings already, including a better washstand.

It amazes me what you are able to find & at those prices. I think I will cancel my vacation plans & drive to your neck of the country.

Step back oak cabinet is nice. I wonder if the panels in the lower doors were changed- they don't see to fit with the rest, but that may just be me.

Pressed wood design on the panels is a little unusual for such a piece but not unheard of. Probably puts it to late 19th early 20th century. Many of the step-backs we see are earlier.

University started back last week and the thrift stores have been cleaned out of furniture. Here are a couple of things I saw before the rush.

See a lot of these gate-leg drop leaf tables. So many that I have stopped posting most of them. This one is somewhat unique in that it is solid cherry and was only $10.00! Didn't check but it looks like it could be Willets. Tempted but did not buy.

I did buy this industrial cart for $15.00. Has an odd hole on top that probably fit some kind of machine. Will probably fit it with a wood top if I can't flip it as-is.

Only thing I have seen worth shooting of late is, yet another, very old walnut dresser. Of course, missing the mirror but that is the only thing wrong with this. Does have some very nice carvings. Only $25.00. Has been sitting at least 3 days without a taker, as of yesterday. Lighting wasn't right for very good pictures so took two.

I just saw a guy get all excited about hauling one of these off, mirror and all. He found it on the side of the road and practically danced. Maybe brown wood among GenZ/younger Millenials isn't quite dead.

Free and easily seen. Flatpack People who put things on cards aren't the audience. People who've had to scrounge are a better bet.

Couple more things seen in the wild. Tempted on both but did not buy.

Incredible bargain on this renaissance revival walnut dresser at $135.00. Has been sitting over a week without a taker. Not a thing wrong with it and nicely refinished..... Just not what people want anymore. :(
    thriftdresser29.jpg

This old chest is a great size for a coffee table. Nice dovetails and orignal interior with till. Top was reworked with hinges replaced. Lock removed. Still a good buy at $10.00.
