I got this at a thrift store today . It says it's a original etching pulled from the canceled plate of a Picasso work.
It 1 of 1500 done by a Emiliano Satini Studio according to the info/coa on back.
Is this real? I know Picasso is one of the most faked artists.
    Thank you for any help!

It's my understanding that plates are cancelled specifically to discourage re-strikes. Apparently that was not effective here. 1500 is not a small run. The value will be in the earlier edition. I haven't looked, but expect you will find other examples online. Just don't get yours confused with that earlier edition.

I would guess so, but I don't know.

Says the 1500 were printed in New Jersey in 1976.
    Interesting.

Looks authentic to me. That cancellation mark is ridiculously subtle. The only thing that I'd be a bit concerned about is that the paper looks very fresh, even for 1976, but that's probably the camera.

The worth of a piece like this is in the original series because that was authorized by the artist, and signed by him. To use a cancelled plate is quite underhanded imo. The whole point is you sold the original edition as limited and no more can be printed. Certainly not 1500 more...geez.

I would also say this strike is not nearly what the original 1920s version was. You can see one here.

It reminds me of the cruise ship scam art market, with reprints and blank signed papers.

Hopefully @Kronos can tell you what the worthpoint ones ended at.

Intriguing how minimal and elegant the cancellation is on this and other of Picasso's etching plates. He, or his representatives, clearly didn't want to spoil it too much.
