Featured Is this estate sale going to oversupply the local Pyrex, glassware market?

MASSIVE PYREX - GLASBAKE & MORE OVER 5000 PIECES starts on 8/27/2025

Largest hoard of Pyrex, glassware that I have ever seen. With the popularity of Pyrex, I am sure there will be diehards coming from far and wide to purchase items for their collections and for resale. I like some Pyrex but not enough to pay the going market rates. Is this sale large enough to possibly oversupply the local market and cause prices to drop? I don't think anyone is under the impression that Pyrex is rare.

    Your Thoughts?

I started to collect it by accident by inheriting a bunch, but prices are all over the place. I usually find it when I am out of town at better prices usually in an antique store by my son in Ca (SanDiego area). By me (S.Fla) if you find any they are always newer pieces, overpriced, with food still stuck on them. The other day, I went to donate & saw pie plates, the new ones with ruffled edges clear glass marked $18. I bought a few dozen of them I think for $7 a piece. I use them when I send pies or cakes. They actually mail very well if wrapped properly.

Hi well that is some kinda collection.

I took a quick look and one thing I saw that was not Pyrex are the brass items.
Seems people are using brass items for decor. A friend of mine regularly sells brass
And I believe I sold a brass crab years ago. So look into that if you are interested.
The Halloween glassware is nice and fairly rare to find.

Pink Pyrex is still desirable. I think the mushroom bowls may be rare. I have never seen them before. I have them but in custard cups and tumblers.

The Fire King blue tear drop bowls are a good find and the dot bowls especially the green one would be nice.

I don't know about prices there, if they are sky high then I would pass because you won't make money and these things weigh a ton to ship
Thanks for sharing with us. What a great sale to go to.

" ARTISAN LEMONADE VENDOR ONSITE " sparing no expense.

I like the coffee maker/pot, stained glass looking covered dish, and Halloween themed bowl/container. The random camping lantern in the mix is kinda funny (pyrex globe I would assume).

That's a LOT. While others are after the bakeware, Clock the grapes in picture 202016921 . Some other would jump on the perfume bottle and paperweights in 202046914. I have hunk of yellow glass in picture 202017028, but in green.

    Those are Glasbake, not Pyrex.
I see other Glasbake items among those photos, too.
    What a cool sale!

Oh heck, there's a boatload of Fire King, Glasbake, Hazel Atlas, Anchor Hocking. Hall china, Mccoy Pottery. Catherineholm! If I could get in early and take my van filled with packing material I could easily drop a grand as long as it wasn't priced at retail. There's things there I haven't seen at market in years.

The thing about this collection is that the patterns are all over the place. I think the demand from Pyrex collectors will be strong & I'm sure there will be quite a few resellers who are hoping to score one of the pieces that sell for 4-figure prices.:rolleyes:

What will kill a market is when someone dumps multiples of the same item within a very short period.

The auction house I used to work for had such an event. They were asked to come and clear out a furniture store that had been closed up for years. There was still furniture inside & & the new owners of the building wanted it gone.

So off they went to clean out the place, but what they never expected to find was hundreds, if not thousands, of pieces of Watt Pottery stashed away in the basement. It used to be given away with purchases.

The first auction was absolute mayhem. It was standing room only & we were all a little shocked when the bidding started for a pair of the Apple S&P shakers. :jawdrop::jawdrop:

What they didn't know was how many more pairs were going to show up in the next few auctions. The ones that got them listed on eBay early on made some good money, but a week or so later, when there were 10+ pairs listed, the buyers just weren't there anymore.

In fact, at some point on the old eBay boards, I had to reassure everyone that these were not reproductions coming out of China. The pieces had just been hidden away for a very long time.

We still tease Bill that he killed the Watt Pottery market all by himself.:facepalm:

LOL! I've seen that happen too. The Roadshow effect but concentrated. One known example turns to two, turns to 20, turns to a dime a dozen.

There was a big interest in Pyrex again when the last Pyrex book came out.
Then it settled down except for rare pieces.
