The hats were worth buying, for sure. I can't imagine buying new jewelry for any money either. People do, though.

The veil will sell at my consignment store, I already got $150 for some of the the things in my $50 worth of stuffed bags. I'm just not wanting to part with it yet. Maybe Facebook Marketplace for that. The red hats are for tea parties, I will be attending a big one again at The Flanders Hotel in Ocean City, NJ. One is labeled Hombergers inside, it was THE place to buy fine clothing in our area, it was in Atlantic City. My aunt Margaret worked there, as well as a casino colleague. The linens are for me, the apron for a friend. I rotate prints/paintings/art on my walls and just donate what I grow tired of. I will put that one up in winter. The consignment shop can't keep vintage hand mirrors in stock, but I will sell this one.

A couple of fun recent finds:

This guy is a full 20" tall. He does not seem to be impressed with what he's looking at. ;)

'Why would you buy that?' my wife said. Because it was $5!

This next one is apparently African, made from (sorta sad to say) moth and butterfly wings. Kinda crazy! $10

This is an impressionistic oil painting on board. I identified the artist as Margaret Sacke, a contemporary artist from Moldova, of all places. How this painting got to a flea market in Portland, Oregon is a mystery to me. $5

And then this fun guy. A folk art "Clog Dancer Puppet" made by a Mr. William Saling (1945-2004) of Zanesville, Ohio. He flop-dances around and does look a little clog-dancer-ish. I'm guessing this one is "Hillbilly" Dancer. Also $5.

The painting done in butterfly wings comes from West Africa somewhere. My mom's came from Ghana, but crafts and such in that part of the world migrate.

Yeah, thank you. I've only just learned of it as a particular craft / tradition.

Literally the exact thing I was going to say. I like handmade stuff and wood but that one doesn't speak to me (he stares judgingly!) and it makes me laugh to imagine Mrs. @Potteryplease being exasperated by the weird new finds. :hilarious:

I dig the puppet though. I'm a sucker for those. Idk if I'd have any place to display him myself but I'd have a hard time leaving a goofy handmade puppet.

Visited a few Charity Shops this morning. The 60 inch plated brass chain, possibly a muff chain was £1.50.
Noticed the Rajasthan Indian silver bracelet in a £10 glass jar full of bits and pieces which included the filigree butterfly brooch and lapis earrings, the other brooches are costume, deco dress clips. Then I saw the coral necklace hanging up for £1. It’s only 13 inches long though.

I will get way more enjoyment from that huge carved face than $5, by, for example, periodically hanging it in obnoxious places to startle family members, offering it to others as a house warming gift, or putting a ridiculous price on it at my next garage sale. :D

I'd hang the make near the bathroom!

Adding a piece of chain to the corals would solve the length problem. For a pound anyone with a brain would have hauled them off. Heck, they sell costume extender chain bits on line.

Keeping the wife happy for cheap? Score! Keeping the wife happy by listening to her? Priceless and it works forever!

$70 auction mirror. No clue why no one else bid ebonized accents, gilded and very aged wood on the back. Thinking late 19th/early 20th century but could be way off. Only other one I could find sold at auction in 2003 for around $1000 usd PXL_20250819_192856592.jpg

You never who who will be looking, and the other bidders were asleep at the switch. Not to my personal taste, but i'd have been cheering you on.

    Nice!!

I've picked up some very old pieces at auction for a fraction of their worth. Even when others knew they were quite old. I think it often comes down to style. Not too many people doing an antique or vintage style so even the dealers have to find the right person.... Even in my town with lots of historic buildings.
