I bought five of these fascinating figures at the car boot sale today. Searching online I found that they are known as Ashanti Gold Weight figures. This one is interesting as it is signed. It looks like perhaps Moumoun or Moumoum but I can't find any other signed examples on line. Another has the same signature. The other three are unsigned.

He is made of brass and about 6cm tall and weighs 48grammes. Can anyone offer any ideas on the signature please?

I have a set of dancers and musicians similar to yours. Mine are not signed, but they are cold painted like yours.
I bought mine from an antiques shop in the 1970s, and they had some age to them at the time. I have no idea how much though, maybe 1950s?

Yes I feel that they are fairly old but not antique.

if signed , they are not that old......... and someones idea of a more modern look.
while it may look like a gold weight........ the painting discounts actual use...

I must say, I never regarded mine as gold weights. Just Akan figurines, probably made for export or as souvenirs. Charming though, and not cheap at the time.
There is at least one masked dancer among mine, and there is more diversity in costumes. They are in a box, I'll see if I can find them and take pics.

My set of dancers and musicians with one of my goldweights in the centre:

I love the masked dancers on either side. I have seen photos of real dancers like that.
