Featured Polished stone necklace

    Picked this up on my travels in Accrington a couple of weeks ago. I don't often bother with jewellery but this caught my eye and it was only £2. I guess some of the stones are agate/quartz. The others I'm not sure. Looks like a vintage style barrel clasp. 38" long.

    I'd say the beads are agate/jasper/quartz or similar with brass spacer beads. The style looks 1970's to me and I think many call this mixed-stone beads necklace "beggars beads", perhaps because they were hawked by street peddlers.

    I always called them "random pretty rock", but I think beggar's beads is the actual name. They were popular in the late 70s to mid 1980s.

    The barrel clasp made me think more 70's but could always be a repro. Your description kind of covers everything :cat:

    Agate and carnelian bead necklace, made in India. Those brass spacer beads are typically Indian and agate/carnelian is a very popular Indian stone which was already exported thousands of years ago.
    And I'm with the cute bunny:), probably 1970s.
