IMG_4959 2.jpeg IMG_4944.jpeg IMG_4960.jpeg IMG_4961.jpeg IMG_4942.jpeg I found this good watercolour at the car boot sale today. It measures 29x23cm and is on paper laid down on art board. It is signed with a stylistic signature that looks c1900 and there is a date which I think could be 1892 or 1912. The frame (damaged) had a Glasgow framer's label which suggests that it could be a Scottish scene .

There seems to be a Z in the signature. Dutch perhaps. All thoughts welcome.

Difficult handwriting , but I read M. Termaet. Termaet is indeed a Dutch name

I see something that ends in an X and Something- ma?t. That's as far as I get.

I'm not adept with signatures...but I surely do like that watercolor! The scene is deliciously evocative, an' skillfully done. I especially appreciate the portrait mode, which adds a kind of focus to the overall ambience.
    Bravo, John...wonderful score!

The vessel seems to be a type of lugger.

I'm not sure this helps at all, but:

I think the last name might be “Mees”

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

The second letter in the surname looks like ä (a with umlaut above it).

Also, there is some kind of letter or symbol between the x and the M. Maybe the letter "i" but also could be something else.

I did find a person named Alex Mäet online, but looks like a person currently alive. The final letter in the name looks most like an "f" to me, but could be lots of other things.

Doesn't date the painting but... Glasgow didn't have postal districts until 1923.
