I picked this up in ttd way home today. It's quite clearly marked 9ct but it quite clearly isn't. You can see where the metal on top has worn through and it hasn't got the weight. Still it's an attractive set.

Lots of that Italian junk was notorious years ago.
The last piece I had marked 9ct, I put some acid on it and it bubbled up green and disappeared:D
    It could be 9ct plated.

Ouch! This set cost me £20. A bit of a poke but I think I'll get over it.

I've bought many pieces with fake hallmarks, mostly worn down to the brass. Paid maybe US$5 for the lot, just to be able to say I'd grabbed the brass ring. Later the fakes came out of China, but they weren't nearly as convincing.

you'll still get yer money back, maybe even a little (little) more (even when sold as plated)

I'm hoping so but no one seems to be paying anything on eBay at the moment. It's good that it's a matching set.

I would stay clear of eBay with jewelry. Etsy will be a good marketplace for this set. Stage it well in photography and it will sell. I still sell quite a bit on eBay but Etsy protects its sellers and eBay does not - often siding with the buyer and many have turned into swindlers particularly with jewelry. On pieces that are worth good money, I now use holographic security stickers and it is photographed on the item. My description clearly states that removal of the sticker will void any attempt at a return. Obviously on jewelry it is way to difficult which is why I will use Etsy. Etsy's fees are quite reasonable but their clients really love great photography and staging. Kind of the way eBay used to be back in the late 90's, early 2000s.
