The visible portion of the painting is 23 x 17.5 inches. Happily the signature seems legible and I see Walt Cantwell. Google, Worthpoint, and ebay searches did not turn anything up. Does anyone think it might be something other than Walt Cantwell?

I would like any assessments anyone has about the painting and the quality of the work. Also, do you think it is an abstract rendering of something specific, or just an abstract painting?

    Thanks for any comments.

    Can't find artist.

To me, the image looks like a dining room table and chairs.

The first. Looks like there are buildings with one window each, left of centre, one behind the other. The building in front seems to be reflected in water.

Signature couldn't get any clearer than that. My first reaction was chairs turned upside down but can now see AJ's interpretation. Maybe the posts are representing a dockside. See pennants flying at upper right which woud fit with a harbor scene. Think it a fairly sophisticated composition. Not by a rank amateur.

An very interesting piece… I like it.. I see the most obvious thing: the inside of a restaurant with the chairs turned up side down on the tables for sweeping and cleaning (probably not sophisticated enough to see the buildings) Will stare at it for a while and maybe..

Thanks everyone for your comments. Good find SIS, but I am not near Maine. This was found in Tennessee.
The "legs" are so prominent that I think they must be a feature of whatever is depicted. I do see that reflection AJ mentioned, though it is subtle, unlike the legs.
