    hi folks

something i found at a boot.

    guessing old....but more costume?

thinking the little stone mounts look pretty cheapio

the main stone i'm presuming glass, but has a red colour in the light (when back not covered/held

so would it be just a really thick red glass?

    any help appreciated

Nice thing. Not sure how you've made any car boots recently. It's monsoon season up here.

yeah from one of my mega boots ;) haven't checked to see if ours have been on, but doubt it

we haven't seen any of that wind i've been hearing about, just nice for 5 minutes, then bad for 5 minutes

    rainbow wonderland

was walking back from the shop inbetween the 2 and thought.........gonna be a rainbow........and boosh a rainbow

but only when i turned around

to be looking and a rainbow just appearing in your sight.........in my opinion...............impossible.......for what reason..........:shifty:

Magical leprechaun powers I'd say. Keep looking for that pot of gold. Just rain and more rain here.

I'm thinking the center stone could be carnelian.

The back bits still look like brass or gold-filled and the white stones are rhinestone or paste. Gold-fill or gold-fill over sterling seemed a safe bet. It didn't look silver-colored from here at all. Still doesn't really.

For Carnelian I look for growth textures. For glass I look for bubbles. You can also try a stone tester. The pictures do have a warm look to the metal...they can fool like that sometimes. :D Silver can also tarnish gold-ish. Paste stones.

interesting thanks Mirana, i'll see what i can see under some harsh light with the stone, if not testing will be the best option

i'd still wager glass though, i can't see anyone being able to carve that (or whatever) so perfectly

We etch and carve glass all the time. :D A lot of these intaglios are glass, but it's still good to investigate.

Looks silver to me. Another vote for carved glass for the intaglio.
