well i got about 50 :woot: (hmmmm which to choose:playful:)

odd thing is it doesn't glow from the front with light (only from back)

the orange colouring is interesting for carnelian but maybe thats just the torch light effect

odd seeing it transition from black to orange

pic 5 does indeed look carved etc out

no bubbles i can see..........not sure still :shame:....but wager glass

new laptops got copilot so been having enough fun with that today (inseparable)

    this is what he thinks

This brooch appears to be a cameo-style piece, centered around a carved intaglio gemstone—likely carnelian or sard, given its translucent orange-red hue. The engraved profile of a classical figure suggests Greco-Roman influence, possibly depicting a deity, philosopher, or noble. Cameos like this were popular in Ancient Rome, revived during the Renaissance, and again in the 19th century, especially during the Victorian era.
    Key Features:
    Central Gemstone:
    • Likely carnelian or sard, both varieties of chalcedony.
    • Engraved with a classical profile—possibly a Roman emperor or mythological figure.
    • Intaglio style (engraved into the surface), often used for seals or signet rings.
    Surrounding Stones:
    • Clear, round stones—possibly diamonds or paste (glass imitations).
    • Set in a metallic frame, which could be silver, gold, or gilded metal.
    ️ Craftsmanship & Symbolism:
    • The intaglio carving suggests it may have once served as a seal, symbolizing identity or authority.
    • The classical motif evokes themes of wisdom, legacy, and cultural refinement.

Sard is a translucent, brown to reddish-brown chalcedony gemstone related to carnelian and onyx. Historically, it was used for decorative purposes and signet rings due to its attractive color and was often combined with white chalcedony to form sardonyx, a stone valued since ancient times for its contrast of bands. The name comes from the ancient Greek city of Sardis or the Persian word for reddish-yellow.

I'd be thinking more basketball guard. A small dude who can scoot can pick the tall guys' pockets of everything but lint.
