Looks like the name "Czecho-Slovakia" stopped being used in 1939. So perhaps this piece has some age too.

If it's pushing 90, I'd bet it really saw some use.

nice antique french vase i picked up yesterday in a charity shop

presuming sevres style ;)....... just not there enough to be so

i don't think there was a mark, but guess could have been on the (presumably) missing base part ?

To be honest, I felt like it was a scam post. The clocks that I was seeing online like it were $2-3k new!!

The seller replied and when I got there, they were an elderly couple that just wanted it out. You could tell the woman was very attached to it, though.

I think I'd like to keep it, but I'll have to see where I could put it. Pic attached.

Aah it was probably a big deal and a big spend for her when they got it. Hopefully it will grow on your wife... :D

Lizzie All you need is love ...and a dog.

I did some research and found that Yixing pieces have a "bumpy" feel (mine is smooth), spots of mica should be seen (no shiny bits at all on mine), the lid should fit snugly (mine is very loose) and finally there is no mark on the bottom (mine just has a circle imprinted in the clay).

The biggest indicator was lid. Everything I read said a loose lid indicates a factory made piece.

It's ok with me that it's not real. It has charm, a nice form and I love the tiny frog and snails.

i thought yixing in spades, and still do to a certain extent. but agree theres something not very chinese made about it (especially looking at the base)

it could be a more modern chinese studio pot, or a really good(non chinese) studio teapot inspired by yixing teapots

    either way.................me likey likey ;):)

Thats a lovely vase Charlie ! The painting is obviously hand done. I dont think the base is missing anything.

interesting, thanks me old mucka, yeah just looks a funny old shape(at the base), wondered if that might have slotted in a stand/base, like a garniture piece or something
