It buttons left-over-right so it's likely a men's garment. The type of buttons used is also traditionally masculine.
It's styled quite like the Pendleton 49er. :)
    I love the plaid!

thought it was a pendleton too from the fabric

i love it though, 3 buttons as well which i prefer & duffle buttons

can't work out if its a shirt, jacket, or suit jacket..........but might work as all three ;)

Ditto- 'all three', fair amount of companies made shirt-jackets in the old days.

Could maybe be Pendleton wool fabric. It just says it was Fashioned by Vista in Portland. That’s where Pendleton was (I assume still are) based. I guess they’d want to advertise it was Pendleton wool on the label but maybe some deal precluded that. Could have been a bespoke piece too. Unless the company history says otherwise. I’ve got some very vintage Pendleton shirts and they sure do look close material size.

Here I am (center) in 1974 with friends I met on a trans-Atlantic voyage on the SS France. The jacket was my older brothers and dated to 1965. upload_2025-9-24_20-27-17.jpeg

That's what these were called, shirt-jackets, usually unlined and very casual. The hat is da-bomb and would look great with the jacket. It bothers me a little that the patch pockets don't line up with the pattern on the jacket.

'Vista Casuals' could've been a small custom outfit run out of some guy/gals Portland home.Growing up back in the 50's there were a fair amount of one person tailor shops.
I remember getting my first real suit-the local family owned department store took my measurements, tailored it called us to pick it up a few days later.
Clothing establishments didn't like folks wearing their garments looking like slobs. In small towns (which most of the country was back then)-it was bad advertising ! Most folks knew each other and noticed what folks wore, and not just on Sunday.
    PS-Spiffy jacket Drew.

A manufacturer, according to the internet. Men's and women's wear. 50 employees in 1961. Ran a factory and apparel shop at Portland address.

Yeah, I do too...but the choice of diagonal cut for three pockets is jarring...an' says cheep!

Yes...those pockets either blend, or are otherwise inoffensive.

It's def weird, the style of the era I guess, maybe it was considered 'hep' ? The label of the first one- 'Jumbo Jac' is neat.

Duffle coats traditionally have a toggle and loop. I've never heard of those leather-wrapped buttons being called duffle buttons. I can't tell from the photo if they're real leather or faux.

The diagonal fabric pockets are intentional and what one looks for on a Pendleton 49er. Definitely not "cheap"!

I'd wear that 1st black and cream one in a heartbeat !

not only...' not cheap ' .... but fashionable for it's time !
