Found this today on my weekly trip to Burnley. I think John is/was based in Cornwall although I read a reference that said he originated in Norfolk and worked in maritime which inspired his paintings of the sea. It's either acrylic or oil and I'm swaying towards acrylic. I've found this on the web and it has to be by the same person. Same scene. No guarantee that the description is accurate though.

I have also found other paintings by a John Stevens. Signature is very similar with some differences, as is subject matter choice.

Amateur job methinks. Maybe he did it himself.

Looks like cheap decorative and almost fantasy like ‘waiting room’ art..
I do however really like the ship painting of the other ‘John Stevens’

Signature and style of the John Stevens ship painting on pamono.edu differ from your painting. Not the same artist. (Sorry.)
