Dear experts, would you take a look and give me your opinions on these two cameos?

The first, is a true Art Deco period piece? The cameo, its black background and the white teardrop all test as glass. I am on the fence because the chain and its pearl accents appear to be older than the cameo but I am not convinced the drop is a replacement as the chain does go through. I have not tried to clean the chain which is 14" with the old style spring ring clasp.

The setting on the second cameo looks old but it has no marks. The green background tests in the quartz chrysoprase range and has some translucence when held up to light. The cameo tests as glass but it looks like MOP. What do you think? Old or made to look old. I was thinking 1930's -1950's. As always I appreciate any help. I know its tough when you don't have the pieces in hand.

The green lady's hair doesn't look Victorian but I'd buy 1920s. Her chain has a 30s sport ring, but those cropped up into the 50s. The back apears to have some old repairs. It was originally a brooch but the pin back broke off. The pendant bail folds down, something it wouldn't need to do unless it also could have been worn as a pin.

Agree with all this. I'dve guessed 30s to be reasonably "safe". She's MOP mounted on the stone. Very pretty. Those MOP ones get overlooked I think because you can't really see the luminous color changing in photos.

I'm not as good with the costume and 20th c cameos but the first one feels 1910s -ish to me from the shorter chain and dainty links. But I'm guessing.

Thank you Evelyb30 and Mirana. I see now the altering of the green one from a brooch and that make so much sense.

I was hoping the first one was early. I was worried that it may have altered but perhaps not and will look better if I clean the chain.

The first one looks odd. I want to say it's later made from vintage parts. I've done that before - make something new out of old broken bits.

"Odd" was my original thought but the chain goes through the cameo. Is that something that could be done with parts?

If it was made that way to begin with. It looks like the faux pearl bits were there to begin with, but the dangling piece is out of scale by a lot.

I totally agree, which was why I wondered about it in the first place. I just can't figure out how someone threaded the original pearl chain through the cameo and kept the pearls on the chain that came out the other side. Or for that matter how the two glass beads at the top could have had the chain go through them. The pearly beads have yellowed with age for sure. But the cameo and the teardrop look new. Its very confusing.

The pearl bits are attached to a straight piece of metal that goes through the bead. I've done similar. The pearls may have yellowed with age.

Here's a close up of how the chain goes through the cameo piece.

Yep. Exactly what I thought. I've done similar things myself.

When I list it I may have to call it a Frankenstein cameo necklace because of the mismash of parts. Thank you for all your help Evelyb30.

I don't think you need to volunteer that info unless it's going to help you sell it. :D Although that keyword might be good for Halloween. :borg::vamp:

Sorry, I should have put a smiley face in after I wrote that. I was joking and didn't make that clear. I am sure it will sell on its own merits even though it is a reconstructed piece.

Isn't this the same green cameo? In it's original state? eBay #256683996265.

It definitely is the same one however, Ebay is not cooperating and letting me search by item number to see the listing.

I found it, I had to remove the period for the search. Thanks Debora.
