Just picked this piece up at a thrift. It's an archaic-style bronze Gu (vase) w/ champleve or cloissone decoration.
    I'm guessing it's early 20th Cent/late 19th Cent-no marks anywhere that I can find.
    It's 8 1/2" high,5 3/16" top opening,3 7/16" diameter base.Hard incrustation inside.
Any ideas on age and origin are most welcome-Thanks !

Thanks Chas-I love the nut brown patina. That time frame seems the most logical one to my untrained brain.
Wouldn't mind getting the crud in the piece analyzed-but I'd think that'd run at least $100 or more for lab work ?

Hmmm....I'd hate to think that was vintage opium pooled in the base ! What a pickle-what should I do as a God-fearing US citizen Charlie ?
Should I somehow incinerate it ?

Our flower garden's gone mad this year-buckets of indigo hydrangeas drying, tons of poppies and dahlias, what better excuse to buy more vases (not that I need any !).

Ditto George-one person referred to it as 'Red Copper',another as bronze, and a few as brass,I'm no expert, but the Chinese have certainly mastered that coloration (patina ?).
Same finish on a fair amount of the arts Crafts pieces I like.
