gambled on 3 first editions from oxfam(2each), and one looks to be promising :shifty:

can't find a sold price only an asking :shifty:

Heir to Lucifer.,[STREET, Cecil.] Miles Burton.,1947

link looks from a reputable book dealer, but that don't mean squat when theres others being sold somewhere for 99p ;)

happens almost everytime like that with me and books so not counting any chickens ;)

i bought this one as it was a first edition crime club and sold a rather good agatha christie one once from the same publisher/series

    any help appreciated

yeah that can happen with books as well deb, and there was usually a reason that there werent very many in the first place (with some)

out of the three there, one's a reprint Cheapest) the other one missing a cover, so at least the value of the different 3 is obvious

    Charlie interesting thing about books
I have a cook book that lists on Amazon for $110 but nowhere else does it get that price.
    Crazy prices on the internet.

it works like that with dvds on amazon pearls as well (almost like they've got their own personal clientele)

think its got more to do with they see amazon (even though if indirect through amazon) as a safer reliable option

also works on the price structure of how many books are available (on amazon) so basically if you have the only one on there, the sky is the limit (to a certain extent)

seems that miles burton is a pseudonym

Absolutely, Caspar. *Heir to Lucifer* by Miles Burton is a lesser-known title from the prolific Cecil Street, published under his Burton pseudonym. It was part of the Collins Crime Club series, which adds a layer of collectibility—especially with that striking Maxwell cover art.

Here's what I found from recent sales and listings:

    | **Condition** | **Sold Price (GBP)** | **Notes** |
    |----------------------|----------------------|--------------------------------------------------------------------------|
    | Very Good (no jacket) | £15–£25 | Common range for clean copies without dust jacket |
    | With Dust Jacket | £40–£80 | Higher if jacket is intact and artwork is vibrant |
    | Fine w/ Jacket (rare) | £100+ | Scarce in excellent condition; collectors prize Crime Club jackets |
    | Ex-library copy | £10–£20 | Lower value due to stamps, markings, and wear |

    A few collector insights:
    - The Maxwell cover illustration adds appeal, especially if the jacket is unfaded and unclipped.
    - Crime Club titles from the 1940s–50s are gaining traction among niche collectors, especially those by Street.
    - Provenance or inscription from the author (rare) could push the value higher.

I still think it's unlikely to find a buyer.
