Featured Veloy Vigil?

Bought this little painting this week. Signed, Vigil as shown. Painted on illustration board, matted and framed with a simple metal frame. Image size is 10" x 10". Medium is guoache or, maybe, thin acrylic. Have had this apart and there are no markings inside.

There are a few artists with the name Vigil. Veloy Vigil seems to be the most promising match. Style is very similar but, perhaps, more abstract than most of his work. Signature is also similar, though he usually includes an initial, V. in his signature. He also usually co-joins the i and g in his last name. That said, I did find one signature that was a pretty close match. What do you all think? Any other options for artist if not Veloy?

Well..... Went back to the thrift and found this. This one is much larger (approx. 16" x 20" sight). Definitely a painting. Definitely gouache. I don't know if I just missed it before or if put out later. I can see how I might have missed it, as it has been re-matted and put in a very cheap frame. Has less texture than the previous one so I took it out to make sure not a print. Only marking on back is an original price of $150. Thinks this confirms the validity of the first one. Best finds in awhile

Amazing that you found two such quality works in the same thrift store. And by a known artist too!

 

It doesn't surprise me that I found two. Would think owned by the same person and donated togeter. What does surprise me is that I found them 2 days apart and that no one else recognized their merit. Yesterday, the store was crawling with people and all housewares (includes art) were 1/2 off. I didn't get there until around 2:00 PM so would have expected it to be picked over.

Really went back to see if there were any frames I could use. Did end up buying 5 frames and one huge beveled glass mirror. The mirror had been donated by a store and was brand new. It was already half off (color tag pricing) and I got an additional half off. Ended up costing me only $15.00. It was the most expensive thing I bought.
