To offer a glimpse of the crowd I occasionally run with; one of them asked if Taiwan made things out of gold...he owns this thing.
It's 5 3/4" long, the medallion is ~1 1.8" diameter, the stem begins as ~1/8" wire, an' is then taper-flattened & slightly bent. The enamel has several guilloche patterns beneath it. A bookmark, perhaps...but I have doubts. What d'ye think? Thanks for lookin'!

I'm almost certain that it's a hairpin. For those elaborate hairbun-style hairdos that were really popular back in the late 1800s/early 1900s in Asia.

Could be, I suppose...but this thing was made recently; if so, it's possibly a copy of something from that era.

Yes I can see that it's new. It'd probably be some touristy thing. But I'd be surprised if it's not a hairpin. It's the right shape for it.

Bookmark. I just bought one myself. My mom likes to read and it goes in a Christmas stocking.

Probably no need, but yes to bookmark. I've seen these Taiwanese champlevé bookmarks before.

Definitely a bookmark...never liked those. They are pretty but leave dents in the pages imo.

I had a stockpile of them. As I am an avid reader I received so many as gifts, and @mirana I never used them for a better reason I still use the one my son made me for Mothers Day in kindergarten…

Cute! I have a pile of plain paper/plastic ones, with a good handful of those being my first bookmarks in elementary school from book fairs.

Husband uses bookmarks so mangled they're losing bits...and also whatever trash paper he picks up while he's reading a particular book. He cracks one open and there's a bookmark with a post-it note, a receipt, and a coupon all holding the same page. :hilarious:

I'm with your husband. In the days of my worst book addiction, I was even known to use another book as a bookmark.

The most I ever won was $2, unless it was $3, so.... I only bought tickets because back in the stone ages the State mailed me coupons for free ones.
