Picked this up at a sale-at first glance a fairly boring little box (5 1/2" square by 2 1/2" high). Picked it up and turned it over,my interest piqued 'Made in British India' ?
The box rattled, and you'll see below what was inside !
-and...( @Debora ) can anyone out there tell me who/what/when/where 'Aimee Herald Campbell' might have had to do with India during the British Occupation ('Raj',1858 to 1947) ?
I'd assume our friends over in the UK see these Brit India markings more than we do in the US.
PS-Dolls are porcelain, joints are metal pinned, large doll has an 'O' impressed on the back of her neck.
Thanks all for any insights !

Born c. 1887. Married Colin Campbell in Winnipeg, Canada in 1909. Died 1974 in Portland, Oregon. Not much information but nothing that connects to India. (Her husband was a linotype operator.) Suspect the box was a Canadian import. Based on hair and shoes, larger doll looks 1930s-ish

An export box, much like present day Indian export, only this one was made pre-Independence. The dollies are more interesting imo, and together they are a sweet memory of a girl and her keepsake box.

As Canada was known then as the "Dominion of Canada," a lot of Indian items were exported to all parts of the country, so it wouldn't be a stretch to think the box was given to her as a present.

Not such a boring box, it's a Hoshiarpur box dated around 1920-40's, the unusual thing about it is the pattern, it's only the second time I've seen that intertwined circle pattern on a Hoshiarpur box, the other is one I have. DSCF2221 (Medium).JPG
