    808Beachbum Aloha!

    Aloha,

I am trying to determine if the lamp base is original to the Steuben Fleur de lis marked shade. Any insight would be appreciated! Thanks for looking...

oppos I failed to answer the question - Steuben did not make lamp bases or lamp parts - all of that was contracted out to many many different companies - it looks true to the period of the shade - they are not like a Handel lamp or a Pairpoint lamp where you would expect both pieces to be from the same factory - you should consider your lamp a Steuben Lamp whether keeping or selling

Mahalo! Although not selling ever, keeping for the nieces, would it affect the value if the electrical was reworked, even modernized?

IMHO, it would help, not hinder, a lamp's value if the electrical were updated. I think most collectors would prefer it usable. But others here may feel differently...

If you do decide to update the wiring, I would suggest that you keep all original components with the lamp.

I have updated the wiring on a pair of c.1928 DeVilbiss perfume lamps. I never plan to sell them myself, but they will be sold at some point. So all of the original pieces are clearly labeled & stored away. There is a note on the bottom of one telling where the pieces are stored so they can be sold with the lamps.

Thirded. Update away. A usable lamp beats a fire hazard any old time.
