IMG_2523.jpg Chair.jpg.jpg IMG_2530.jpeg I just picked these up and am trying to figure out, make, year, value. ChatGPT says emphatically they are Tell City but the only examples online i can find are ladder back rush seats where the cane is weaved around the chair frame and does not have the wood frame like these have. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you IMG_2523.jpg Chair.jpg.jpg IMG_2523.jpg Chair.jpg.jpg

A Google Images search brought up this one on eBay. Item #177176393421.

Chat GPT and other AI tools are notoriously wrong despite their answers being adamant. Have found another example here....

Four Vintage Wood Chairs sold at auction from 15th May to 12th June | Cates Auction

No attribution as to maker. I guess my question is, why does it matter who made them? They are definitely not by a famous maker, nor are they of particular scholarly or antique interest. They are just used furniture at this point and, if the value from that auction is any indication, of little value. Most likely date to 1960s or so and worth what you can get for them.

For the record, I do think these have more value than the $10.00 acheived for that set of 4 at auction. However, it just goes to show how value is is very much subject to time and place. Here in my semi-rural Midwest location, I would be lucky to get a $100 for the set at retail. Truth be told, I would probably price the set more in the $60-80.00 range. It really would depend on what I had to pay for them but I could conceivably see buying them at auction for that $10.00 or so. That is the nature of my market here. You might do better in or near a large city.

Just realized that you probably have a set of 6. The above was based on a set of 4. You could bump the above figures to $150.00 max at retail but, more realistically, $90-120.00. YMMV ;)

@Mandy Richardson I think your chairs are very nice and in great condition. They match my Willetts server in my kitchen. There was a lot of maple furniture made during the 50s 60s and IMHO as long as it matches and I like the style, who really cares. I would buy these in a NY minute.

Seconded. They look like really good chairs, suitable for use. Maple furniture from the era doesn't sell for much, but just try to find a single modern solid wood chair for the price of this whole set.

They certainly appear to be in wonderful condition. Would cost a fortune to replace/repair the rush seats.
