I never planned on collecting autographs. I started out with one thing in mind, and it just snowballed from there.

When I saw a set of autographs for sale that were signed to actor Cesare Romero, I bid on them and won. I was really the only bidder. How sad is that? While Romero is basically remembered for playing The Joker on Batman, his career started in the early thirties.

This is Lilyann Tashman. This photo does not do the beauty of this piece justice. It's an original 11 x 14 George Hurrell photograph. Since the photo was professionally framed, this is more than likely how it hung in Romero's place. [IMG]
The only thing I got for Christmas was this Edmund Lowe autographed photo. It's also an 11 x 14.

If these photos weren't autographed I wouldn't even have given them a second look. It turns out, Lowe and Tashman were married. He was by her side when she passed away in 1934 at the age of 38.

They will be hanging side by side.

Both photos are great, but wow, the one of her...absolutely fantastic.
Thanks for turning me on to this. Didn't know of George Hurrell. What an artist.

How do you know she inscribed her photograph to César Romero?

I grew up on Batman. I even had a costume and would jump off our stoop while wearing it. It's still the best Batman series/movie. It was made for kids.
Thank you. Yes, Hurrell (IMO and many others) is the greatest Hollywood photographer. I have quite a few books on his work. All of them stunning.
The ad said it. That's not saying much. Except, I also got Mina Gomball's photo to him, and they were both in The Thin Man (yes with Powell/Loy/Asta). There's another actress who worked with him, I got her photo, and there was also a photo (framed) of Romero from the 60s as a clown on Bonanza. The only person that I can't find a link to is Tashman. Since she's with the others and it's signed to Cesar, it's addressed to him.

Odd that she'd sign her photograph with "My love" and then misspell his name.

Maybe she thought he was Italian.;) Or it was her nickname for him.

True. Or may have been an association through her husband.

That was when TV was entertaining. Batman, Bewitched, The Monkees, The Partridge Family. All great fun shows.

Of course it's a classic. I have the complete I Love Lucy, and it's still hilarious. That's one timeless show.

She might have thought that's the way it's spelled. I did. I've known who he is since the 60s.

The third photo I have, is signed to Butch, which was his nickname. Why? I don't know. But, it's actually part of his IMDB page.

I thought "My love" might have been a romantic thing between them. But, it also might be friendly admiration. He was known as a Latin Lover. The thing both Tashman and Romero have in common, they were known as the best dressed people in Hollywood. That might have been something that brought them together.
