Featured Antique Rolled Gold? watch pin - need some help please.

    I have this c.1920's? Gruen ladies watch & rolled gold? gold-filled? pin that I am going to list together. I would think the pin is likely the same era as the watch. Do you agree?

    The watch is for parts/repairs, but the pin is in great condition.

    The pin measures 1 1/8" across by 7/8" top to bottom. The watch is 1 1/4" from the winder knob to the edge of the clasp, where it hooks onto the pin by 1" across.

    I think the monogram is EB, but feel free to correct me, as I usually suck at reading these fancy monograms. :rolleyes::rolleyes:

    I did test the pin as it is not marked & it registered 12K on my tester. Would 'rolled gold' or 'gold-filled' be a better description?

    I also thought the catch was kind of unique. Does it help in the dating of this pin?

    Gold filled creates a layer which is bonded to the base metal, while rolled gold is a layer which has literally been rolled on top of the base layer without being bonded..

    Rolled gold or a similar gold plating. Not gold filled, which is rare on period jewellery anyway.
    Agree. Could be a few years older than you think.
    Agree. The B has the same 'break' in the curve of the lower line as the B for Brenda in the Fraktur script examples below (Fraktur = fracture).

    For those who have trouble reading Fraktur script, Brenda is the top name. The others are Sophia, Elijah and Brenden.

    If you ignore the lower squiggle of the B, you should also ignore the same squiggle on the E, in which case it would be FR, not ER.;)

    But both squiggles are functional, so EB.

    Which is also Fraktur, at least this version of Old English (not all versions).

    boy did they made a boat load of these transitional style watches...... I think 1920's is more or less correct !

    when there's a ring hole at the bottom , it was usable as a new wrist watch... but also could still have been placed on a chain or pin....or an earring..should one have the proclivity !!;):playful::playful::playful:
