Hello! I’m clueless on the age of this fireplace screen - any idea? It’s wooden, the painting appears to be original. That’s all I know. Any help is greatly appreciated! View attachment 464348 IMG_0805.jpeg View attachment 464348 IMG_0805.jpeg IMG_0806.jpeg IMG_0807.jpeg

Nani- Can you post just a clear photo of the painting ? Looks pretty good but rather tough to tell from the above image.

That's a nicely executed painting, good colors confident execution.I don't see an obvious signature on it-do you ? Could be very small, camouflaged or right under the frame.

I don't understand a painting as a fireplace screen. The screen is used to block some of the heat. The ones I've seen are needlepoint, which can be exposed to heat without damage. I think it was reused as a picture frame.

Reminds me of Thomas Kincaid or someone similar.

A pretty little scene. Very likely the work of a talented amateur woman painter. What does the other side look like?

I see it's been a while since you've posted, but I just wanted to ask if anyone explored lifting a corner of that backing to look for any maker's mark or other clues underneath. Sometimes even a faint stamp or pencil date can turn up hidden there. Curious if any closer look at the hardware or joinery gave any hints about the age or origin?

This not a screen that was used to stop embers from popping out into the living space when the fire is lit . . . . painted wood & needlepoint pieces were used when the fireplace was not in use as a decoration to cover a dirty ash laden opening. One would see a brass screen placed in front of a burning fireplace.

I had one similar that came with an old house we fixed up—turned out to be around 1915. You can usually tell more from the type of hinges or finish on the back. When we restored that place, https://emersonproservices.com/carrollton/ helped with some chimney work, and the crew mentioned how often those older homes had handcrafted fireplace screens like that.
