    What the heck is this?
The flowers and birds attracted me, and it looks old. English? Any idea of age and purpose? 13.9cm in diameter. Thank you!

I remain confused by the push and pull here of respected voices , and the vast amount of these items on etsy and Ebay and reddit where an attribution bounces too and fro .

So I can only conclude that it is either a soapy butter dish , or a buttery soap dish !!!

( not a Potty....... so please ignore my wild speculation !!!!:sorry::sorry::sorry:..)

I'm leaning towards soap dish. No reason to cover the soap, but keeping it dry preserves the soap and this dish allows water to drain into the bottom. This item just seems like the wrong overall shape for a covered butter. It is confusing. But here's one from the R site with most of the pieces missing.

Looks like a soap box to me, strikes me as a bit small for a butter dish and would expect a shallower base and higher domed lid.

A sponge bowl was larger and open, for a sponge of a size appropriate for sponge baths - there are two shown on this page, above two of the three soap boxes:

    So, I guess we're still saying it's a Soap Dish / Bowl?
