Japanese Lacquer Wall Hanging

    Hello

    I found a Japanese lacquered wall hanging. Nicely carved, but lacking detail you see in the really nice Japanese pieces.

    I’ve come across the term Kamakura-bori, buts it’s really not my area.

    It does have a signature on the back.

    60cm at widest point.

    Afaik that is indeed the term for this type of work, first carved, then lacquered in various colours.
    In this case it would have been lacquered red first. After that it would have been lacquered completely brown-black, then polished to reveal some of the red underneath.
